Going to the Chapel

Married life has changed me a great deal.

I used to function just fine (okay I was miserable) on two hours of sleep. In the past five months I have reached the point where I want to be in bed by 9:30 (and it usually happens) and wake up refreshed around 7. I realize this is a lot of sleep but I am loving it. I no longer need naps and I don’t hit lulls so I am more productive.

Which leads to me being awake before my husband on Saturdays writing blog posts for the week.

Married life has also some how conned me into being on a Fantasy Football team. I have no idea how that happened.

Anyway… For those of you planning weddings and being overwhelmed by all the ideas being thrown at you from everyone including but not limited to your planner, your super-traditional grandmother, your crazy-fun loving best friend, your photog, the random person that you never cared about their opinion before so why do you care now…

All these ideas can be overwhelming even if they are good ones. The problem is their ideas are pieces to a wedding that may not fit your theme. If the word theme freaks you out because the word “nautical” or “boho” isn’t tacked on to your nuptiuals you can relax… themes do not have to as extravagant as “Alice in Wonderland” (even though I would totally want to photograph that wedding). Themes can simply be things like your colors, the time of day/night your getting married, the season, and so on.

People often scoff at themes as something that is trying to control them and their wedding. Think of themes as a launch pad for the rest of your ideas. They give you a place to start and when you have all your details laid out they will match your theme which will tie your wedding together.

Pinterest is a great place to look but it too can be a little overwhelming. A problem I see in wedding lately is there will be a perfectly nice wedding with one aspect of it that is clearly “Pinteresty” and just fits in awkwardly with the rest of the theme.

So while I love Pinterest. Try looking a few of wedding specific sites to help you get an idea for the big picture around small beautiful details. A lot of these website can be search through by color, themes, and even where you are in the country.
