For better and for worse I share a lot in common with my dad. We are both lack the ability to not share exactly how we feel and we love to watch ALL the behind the scenes and commentaries on movies. One of my favorite memories is discussing what cameras and computers we would buy if we won the lottery. To my knowledge he didn’t ever actually buy the lottery tickets, we just liked to talk about it.
I look a lot my dad. And I take a lot pride of that. I think because when I little was my sister did the typical, try to convince me I was adopted thing. Early on I realized that I had his eyebrows and boxy jawline and knew that meant I at least belonged to him. At church when I younger people would comment on our similarities and he would tell them, “Yeah, but she is prettier version.” Years later looking for his room at the hospital when my mom wouldn’t answer her phone, a nurse would pop up and say, “You must be Mr. Gordon’s daughter… he’s over there.”
I learned a lot from him and the last few weeks I have been thinking about those things and compiled them into a list
- How to count.
- Don’t walk with your head down. It makes you look sad.
- Share everything. Especially food.
- Cut grilled cheese diagonal into triangles. It makes dipping into tomato soup and and eating easier.
- Don’t buy black cars or use black shingles on your roof. We live in Georgia. Don’t make it hotter than it is.
- Buy houses at the highest point you can.
- Most problems with technology can be fixed by turning the device off and on again.
- How to make potato soup.
- Photoshop.
- The best part of a baseball game is the food.
- How to play chess.
- Cook.
- Attempted to teach me to drive.
- Show people who love them by driving them crazy.
- School isn’t the end all and be all.
- Don’t complain about a working body.
- Get a professional for things you don’t like doing.
- Don’t be a idiot.
- Never have a bad day.
